The Ellis holds its annual meeting in May of every year. The date, time and location will be posted to the home page and the Ellis calendar. At the annual meeting, the Ellis President provides an annual review of the past year and discusses initiatives and events planned in the year ahead.

An important part of the annual meeting is the presentation of The Arthur F. Howe Community Service Award, which is given to an individual who has made "enduring contributions toward improving and preserving Boston's unique and historic South End."

The award was established in 2001 in memory of the legendary South End figure that served two terms as President of the Ellis and was a longtime member of its Board of Directors. Howe also was a founder of the South End Historical Society and was devoted to preserving the special architectural character of the area.

The Award has been presented to:

  • Susan Park ‘02
  • Owen Carlson ‘03
  • Kathleen McKenna ‘04
  • Albert Rondeau ‘05
  • Melvin King and Kevin White ‘06
