Columbus Center

Parcels 16-18; Columbus Avenue from Arlington to Clarendon Streets
Owner: Winn Development
Construction Manager: J.F. White Contraction Co.
Project Field Office: 39 Church Street, Boston, MA 02116
Project Manager: Kevin Lampron Jr.

As of November 11, 2008 as part of an effort to clean-up the Columbus Center site while the development undergoes a review, the Columbus Center team announced today that they will focus on restoring the sidewalks on Clarendon, Berkeley and Stanhope Streets. The cleanup is in response to neighborhood concerns and the Mayor’s continued desire to have a clean site during this transition period. This latest announcement includes the following improvements:

Clarendon Street:

  • Re-open sidewalk
  • Remove jersey barriers and fencing
  • New temporary sidewalk to work around temporary fencing

Stanhope Street:

  • Move fencing back to property line along street, restoring sidewalk
  • Create new temporary handicap ramp along Stanhope

Berkeley Street:

  • Remove barriers and temporary sidewalk on street
  • Reopen bridge sidewalk
  • New fence line on Berkeley to meet up with existing MTA bridge fence

Much of the restoration work on the parcels is complete, including, but not limited to: scaffolding and construction trailer removal; relocation of fencing and restoring parking spaces and sidewalks for public use; replacing/repairing green visual fence screening; and ongoing debris removal, weed and rodent control. The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority (MTA) is awaiting a report from a consultant, Beal Company, (the developer of the Clarendon) to determine if Columbus Center is financially feasible to construct.
