The 2019 Fundraiser Beneficiary
Each year, the Annual Fundraiser proceeds help sustain Ellis’ operations and ongoing initiatives as well as lend support to a special beneficiary. This year, The Ellis is excited to have chosen the renovation and reconstruction of the Allan Rohan Crite triangle park at the corner of Columbus Avenue and West Canton Street. The new park will create an inviting, attractive space to bring neighbors together, join in events and share in its future.
Crite, 1910-2007, spent most of his life in Boston where he enjoyed an extensive career as painter, draftsman, printmaker, author, librarian and publisher. Crite chose to tell “stories of my people in an immediate sense, in their neighborhoods,” rather than depicting African American people as sharecroppers or jazz musicians as was the custom of his time. Allan Rohan Crite was a neighborhood icon and the renovation of this park will celebrate the life of its namesake.
Individual Tickets @ $125 will be available May 24th.
