Located on Columbus Avenue at the intersection of West Canton and Appleton Streets, Crite Square honors an acclaimed artist and South End resident, Allan Rohan Crite, whose work captured the lifeblood of the local African-American community during the 1930’s.
Over the years, Crite Park has fallen into disrepair. Thus, the Ellis Neighborhood Association and area neighbors established a mission to revitalize the park. The Crite Park project is making headway with our first large grant of $250,000 from the CPA. Read more to learn about the phases in which the park will be built. Our mission is multi-faceted: •To beautify the space into a visually open, safe, and tranquil environment •To rejuvenate and expand the park for community events and social gathering supporting our diverse neighborhood culture •To serve as a South End landmark and a tribute to a Boston cultural and artistic icon Allan Rohan Crite.
