MEET THIS YEAR'S ELLIS SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS HERE.
The Ellis South End Neighborhood Association Scholarship Committee is the Association’s newest committee. Its goal is to benefit recent high school graduates of the South End and Lower Roxbury who want to pursue careers in the trades or service industry through accredited Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. To achieve this end, the committee is establishing a self-perpetuating scholarship fund over the next five years that will generate funds through solicitations, charitable grants, crowdsourcing, and fundraising events.
Unlike traditional scholarship programs, the Ellis Scholarship seeks to help young adults, who have a core competency in academic skills but need employable technical, and job-specific skills to find a career path for jobs that include but are not limited to health care; information technology; automotive technology: and the construction trades. Of the 55 million job openings created by 2020, 30 percent will require some college or a two-year associate degree. With the Ellis Scholarship Fund, we can help students to reach their goals
