Year in Review – FY 2014-2015
The mission of the Ellis South End Neighborhood Association today is to enhance and preserve the quality of life in the neighborhood. We do this by:
· Bringing residents and businesses together
· By providing a forum for discussing local and citywide issues
· Planning social activities and projects that build relationships among neighbors,
· Working to keep our neighbors informed of news and decisions that impact the community.
To this end we have had a variety of accomplishments this year. 10 events with a community focus include:
· At the end of our last year we had a successful Yard Sale that brought neighbors together from all over the South End. The next Yard Sale will be in September
· A Forum with principals of local elementary schools was widely attended by South End and Back Bay residents
· In the Fall and in the Spring, we support Boston Shines so neighbors can get together and clean up the ‘hood
· We supported National Night Out with Castle Square
· In December we worked with Cathedral High School and Project Place to hand wreaths on local streets; we plan to extend the reach of wreaths next year
· Supported the Mayor’s Tree Lighting with coffee and cocoa
· Sponsored the showing of a film, Neighbors: Conservation in a Changing Community which was held at USES and included a lively conversation afterwards
· Fete de la Musique, a CMCB music festival that celebrates the summer solstice
· We are the only neighborhood association that marches in the Pride Parade
· And we also march in the Villa Victoria Festival Betances parade in July
7 Social events that brought neighbors together included:
· Our quarterly wine tasting events
· A Holiday party at Zocalo
· A cooking class at Sur La Table
· A patio dinner at Cinquecento
· The Annual Meeting with a photographic talk about the South End with John Neale
· The June Fundraiser Gala that raised over $18,000 to further our civic and social projects
· Progressive Dinner
To keep our neighbors informed,
· We created a new, more user friendly website - be sure to check it out often!
· Also a presence on Facebook and Twitter
· We produce a monthly Newsletter supplemented by emails of timely announcements
· We worked with a consultant to help us strengthen Board involvement and communication
· Forged relationships with BFIT and the SE Forum
All in all, we are proud of our accomplishments, of our role in the neighborhood and thank you all for your interest and participation. We are particularly grateful to the Directors and committee members who helped make all this happen.
