Community Outreach
We partner with South End organizations in order to offer various volunteer opportunities to our members and groups. The goal is to create a variety of volunteer opportunities, to increase visibility of the Ellis, and to showcase the organizations without any financial commitment.
Development, Licensing, and Zoning
We work on zoning and building issues that may affect the neighborhood. Among other issues, we are involved in the BRA urban renewal initiative and looking at implications. We also review license applications which may affect the neighborhood that come before the City of Boston Licensing Board and the Mayor's Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
The Ellis Board of Directors and members embrace diversity, promote equity, and create an inviting and inclusive environment for all members of our community. We welcome all neighbors regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, faith, nationality, age, and socioeconomic status. Please contact Ellis Chair Julie Arnheiter at julieteelarnheiter@gmail.com with any questions or concerns.
Events
All events are announced on the website and in our newsletter, including political and civic forums, new member parties, wine tastings, an annual progressive dinner, the "pumpkin patch" and holiday wreath hanging. Ideas and participation are encouraged!
Membership
We strive to continuously recruit new members and maintain the current membership of the Ellis including hosting events such as new member and membership appreciation parties, patio dinners and the annual Progressive Dinner. The Ellis South End Neighborhood Association is a supporter of young families and the neighborhood is a great place to raise a family. We are particularly interested in developing projects and initiatives for the young families in our community. For more information about joining The Ellis Neighborhood Association, visit our Membership Page.
Neighborhood Services
We work with the neighborhood and City Hall to enhance the beauty and efficiency of the neighborhood, including trash issues, trees, neighborhood clean-ups, public nuisance and awareness, and thereby are actively involved in improving the quality of life in the Ellis neighborhood. The focus includes street, tree and sidewalk maintenance, trash collection, composting, litter and snow removal as well as public safety, parking and crime. Each Spring and Fall we promote and participate in the "Love Your Block" project sponsored by Boston.
Scholarship
The Ellis South End Neighborhood Association is pleased to award scholarship funding to benefit recent high school graduates of the South End and Lower Roxbury who want to pursue careers in the trades or service industry through accredited Career Technical Education (CTE) programs.
