The Arthur Howe Award is named after Arthur F. Howe, a long-time Montgomery Street resident, a founding member and past President of the Ellis South End Neighborhood Association. Arthur was instrumental in saving the South End from the wrecking ball of urban renewal and worked tirelessly to make the neighborhood into the wonderful place it is today. We are all indebted to Arthur and we cherish his memory. Since it was created in 2002, the Award has been presented today annually to outstanding individuals, "For improving the quality of life while preserving the character of Boston's Unique and Historic South End." Winners are selected by the Executive Committee from suggestions made by the Directors and the memberships at large.

Comments of thanks and forward thinking from Reginald Jean:
“Truly honored to receive the Arthur Howe Award from the Ellis Neighborhood Association. This recognition reflects the collective work of the entire Haley House community, our staff, board, volunteers, partners, neighbors, and the countless individuals who have helped shape our mission over the last 60 years.
The South End and Roxbury communities continue to show what’s possible when we lead with dignity, belonging, and opportunity. I’m proud that Haley House remains committed to creating pathways through food access, affordable housing, workforce development, and community building. As we prepare to relaunch the Haley House Bakery Café in Nubian Square later this year, this recognition feels especially meaningful.
There is still much work ahead, and I’m grateful to be doing it alongside such an incredible community. Thank you to the Ellis Neighborhood Association for this honor and for your longstanding commitment to strengthening our neighborhoods.”
